Guests, mostly senior citizens, attended with neighbours and friends.

The dinner was graced by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai and other MCA representatives.

THE Selangor MCA Youth recently organised a Gong Xi Fa Cai night in Taman Kinrara, Puchong, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Deputy Finance Minister and Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim was the guest of honour at the function.

In his speech, Lim said, “To run a country at this juncture is not easy, what more a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

“There are a lot of countries with people from a single race or religion who are facing a lot of turbulence and uncertainties.

“However, Malaysia has been performing well on the economic, social and employment fronts. We recorded a 5.6% overall economic growth, a 3% unemployment rate and 2% inflation rate in 2012.”

Lim said having positive transformations and good leaders like Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak have helped to propel the country forward.

“On the Asian front, countries like Japan, Korea and Taiwan had their elections last year, and the people gave their votes to the older, established parties, which have been running their respective countries for many years,” he said.

“Similarly, the Barisan Nasional government has been running Malaysia for many years, though we are not without our flaws, Najib is doing his best to correct the shortcomings.

“If the people in other countries can vote for the party with experienced leaders and a good track record, I don’t see why the people in Malaysia cannot do it.”

Meanwhile, Selangor MCA Youth chairman Dr Kow Cheong Wei said he had been receiving a lot of queries from his friends as to who they should vote for.

“I suggested that they make their decision based on the following qualities.

“They are — management ability, leadership with commitment, capability to bring harmony among Malaysians and a government that can ensure a stable environment with economic opportunities,” he said.

THE Central Reinforcement Area (CAR) project in Kampung Sungai Terentang in Rawang, that is currently at a standstill, can be resolved if the Selangor government is willing to cooperate with the Federal Government, said Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim.

He said although the problem could be overcome, the state government was refusing to cooperate.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) CAR project, which was started in 2005, involved the installation of 60km of high-voltage cables between Bukit Tarek in Rawang and Kampung Chubadak in Sentul.

With 1.5km yet to be completed at Kampung Sungai Terentang in Rawang, the project had stalled for over four years after objections from local residents.

“The solution is for the project to go through the industrial area behind Kampung Sungai Terentang, instead of over the houses,” he said.

Lim said this after presenting ang pow to children, senior citizens and those who attended the Selayang MCA Chinese New Year open house held at the Greenpark basketball court in Rawang recently.

He also said it was Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s duty to ensure the well-being of the people in the state.

“When Pakatan Rakyat took over Selangor, they promised to resolve the issue within 100 days. Until now, it has not been resolved,” he said.

Selayang MCA division chairman Datuk Tang See Hang, who was also present, said the big crowd at the dinner was proof of the people’s support for MCA.
