CELEBRATION: Guests enjoy food and dance performances held in conjunction with Chap Goh Meh
KUALA LUMPUR: DOLLS in the form of mythical Chinese deities performed to the popular Korean hit Gangnam Style, while the crowd enjoyed local delights at the PJU and PJS Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday evening.The celebration, which coincided with the Chap Goh Meh, was held at a car park in Section 17.
Rain did not deter some 1,000 guests from attending the event organised by MCA Petaling Jaya and the Section 17 traders and business community.
Guests, mostly senior citizens, attended with neighbours and friends.
The dinner was graced by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai and other MCA representatives.
Lim urged the public to show their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration.
"Please continue to show your support for MCA and Barisan National in the upcoming general election," said Lim, who later sang a popular Chinese New Year song.
Others who were present included former Kampung Tunku assemblyman and MCA veteran Datuk Dr Wong Sai Hou, MCA Kelana Jaya division chairman Ong Chong Swen and Section 17 traders and business community chairman Lim Keh Seng.
The dinner started with the tossing of yee sang followed by servings of local dishes.
These included satay, chicken curry, fried bee hoon were among the dishes served.
Chinese cultural performances such as the lion and dragon dance, thousand-hand Kuan Yin dance, as well as the belly dance provided a feast for the eyes.
The God of Prosperity and other deities offered sweets and oranges to those at the dinner.
The guests who attended were of multi-ethnicity.
They dined together in round tables and enjoyed the line-up of colourful performances.
Senior citizens and children were given ang pow.
